But first, here's a little bit about their story.
Alyona never thought she'd fall for a younger man, but one day while she was working at HuffPost, preparing to go report from the Sochi Olympics, a handsome guy named Jake came over from AOL's broadcast engineering team to walk her through using some of the equipment she'd be taking on the trip. Little did she know, Jake had long had a crush on her and saw this as his opportunity to impress the girl of his dreams...here's real video of their first ever exchange.
During this conversation, Jake casually dropped that he had studied Russian history and literature at Lawrence University and even studied abroad in St. Petersburg. He had always wondered how his education would come in handy later in life. The answer was now clear.
It took Jake more than a year after this interaction however to work up the guts to ask her out, so let's skip ahead to now:
-After Jake wooed Alyona by devotedly nursing her back to health from multiple sports related injuries...
-After Jake discovered Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Alyona had to adapt to his new inability to give a hug that doesn't involve some sort of maneuver into a chokehold...
-After learning to live with each other's hectic work schedules and time apart because one or the other may be covering an election or touring with Frank Ocean...
-After traveling all over from Morocco to Mexico, Paris to Moscow, exploring, honing their bargaining skills and getting food poisoning...
-After bonding over their mutual love of singing, even though neither is that good at it...
-After all of this, and of course realizing they had found the person they felt most at home with, who makes them laugh, who has their back, and who they miss even when he or she is in the other room, they decided to become conformists and commit to a lifetime of monogamy. =)
And now their dream of celebrating their love with the people who matter most to them is coming true!
